Frequently Asked Questions

View Once is a free, anonymous web service that lets you send private messages, files, documents, and voice notes that disappear forever after they are viewed. Built on a zero-knowledge architecture with AES-256 encryption, it provides an authentic WhatsApp-style Privnote alternative that leaves no digital footprint.
When you compose a note, all message text, voice audio, and attachments are encrypted client-side and saved as encrypted ciphertext. Only the recipient with the unique link can decrypt it. The moment the note is read (or reaches its expiration timer), the entire conversation and all attachments are permanently shredded from our database.
Yes! You can attach up to 30 files at once. Single documents (such as PDFs, Word files, spreadsheets, and ZIP archives) can be up to 25MB each. Photos, videos, and voice recordings can be up to 16MB each. You can also toggle between Standard Quality (compressed for fast mobile viewing) and HD Quality (uncompressed original clarity).
Yes. View Once features an end-to-end encrypted two-way ephemeral chat room. Once your recipient opens the secret link, both of you can chat in real time, record voice notes with interactive waveforms, send attachments, react with emojis, and view read receipts. All messages in the room share the same self-destruct countdown timer.
We implement DoD-compliant cryptographic shredding. The instant a note is read or expires, server storage and database entries are cryptographically zeroed out and purged. With zero backups, zero logs, and zero residual caching, deleted notes and files can never be recovered by anyone.
Every note and attachment is encrypted using military-grade AES-256-CBC encryption with unique initialization vectors (IVs). For optional password protection, encryption keys are derived using PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256 with 100,000 iterations. Three failed password attempts trigger automatic self-destruction to defeat brute-force attacks.
You can select "Delete on read (View Once)" to self-destruct immediately upon opening, or choose a timed expiration: 1 minute, 1 hour, 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days. Unopened notes also automatically expire and purge when their validity window elapses.
